ABOUT US
In the heart of Sarasota, Broken Plank Rum was born—not just as a distillery, but as a tribute to the unyielding spirit of those who came before. The name “Broken Plank” was once simply an idea—a name that sounded strong, timeless, and full of potential. But as we dove into our craft, it took on a deeper meaning, rooted in the stories of the bootleggers, rum runners, and distillers who paved the way for modern spirits.
The name evokes the image of a splintered barrel, a shattered still, or the deck of a ship weathered by storms and time. For those pioneers—crafting spirits in secret, evading prohibition raids, and often rebuilding after the law caught up with them—a broken plank wasn’t the end of the story. It was a challenge to overcome, a moment to rebuild stronger.
At Broken Plank Rum, we honor that same resilience. Every bottle we create is a nod to the grit, ingenuity, and passion of those who defied the odds to keep their craft alive. Our rum is handcrafted with the same determination and attention to detail, ensuring that every sip carries the weight of history and the promise of something extraordinary.
OUR LEGACY
For every broken plank, there’s a story of rebuilding. For every setback, there’s a triumph. And for every sip of Broken Plank Rum, there’s a connection to a long tradition of craftsmanship, courage, and resilience.
We’re proud to continue that story in Sarasota, celebrating those who came before us while crafting a legacy of our own. Here’s to the broken planks—and the unbreakable spirits behind them.
